DESCRIPTION:Scarborough Photo Archive in partnership with North Yorkshire Council are delighted to announce that Archivist & Photographer Keith Meatheringham will be giving a slide show and talk about the Dobson Agency photography collection on Friday 18th September at 6pm. \nThis event will celebrate the visual history and heritage of Scarborough and the surrounding areas with superb photos from this unique and extensive collection documenting the town\, it’s people\, famous faces\, old scenes\, and events for over 60 years. \nBooking essential\, please message to reserve your place: gemma.alexander@northyorks.gov.uk \nOr alternatively book on here:  https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/2000394453660?aff=oddtdtcreator \nThe Dobson Agency was founded by the late photographer Dennis Dobson in 1964. Predominantly as a Press & Commercial Photography agency creating pictures of news and sporting stories and events\, as well as capturing great editorial photos for National Newspapers\, Magazines and other publications. We also took photos for many small and large business in the area too. \nWe could have anywhere up to 1/4 million images in the collection\, most of which is still yet to be digitised. However\, It’s nice to be able to share some of these remarkable images with you\, making them accessible to a wider audience and to use them as a catalyst for community engagement\, creativity and storytelling. \nWhat is unique about this archive is that the photos are all from our ‘recent’ history and not victorian photos from times long passed\, and so it makes these photos far more relatable for people.  Photography has a unique ability to connect people with places\, memories and experiences\, and this will provide an invaluable opportunity for residents to view some of Scarborough’s recent visual history. \nThe slide show and display will last approximately 1hr and will benefit the community by bringing together people of different generations\, encouraging conversations between those who remember the town as it once was and younger audiences who are discovering its heritage for the first time.
