SUMMARY:Book Launch and Q&A with author Glenda Young
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to invite you to the virtual book launch of the paperback edition of author Glenda Young’s new cosy crime novel Murder at the Seaview Hotel. \nMurder at the Seaview Hotel is set in a B&B in Scarborough and stars 12 Elvis impersonators (called Twelvis!) and when one is found dead with his blue suede shoes missing\, hotel landlady Helen Dexter and her rescue greyhound Suki are on the case to solve the crime. With the reputation of the Seaview hotel on the line\, Helen isn’t going to wait for the murderer to strike again. With Suki by her side\, she decides to find out more about her guests and who wanted to make sure this Elvis never sang again. \nGlenda will be discussing her novel including why she chose Scarborough as her setting for this the first of a trilogy of cosy crime books set in the town which also features a pivotal scene that transpires in our very own Rose Gardens! \nThe virtual launch will take place via zoom on Thursday 11 November at 2pm. To attend the online book launch\, email Gemma.Alexander@scarborough.gov.uk and you’ll be sent the Zoom link. \nAll participants joining the launch will go into a draw\, with prizes including Afternoon Tea for two at the idyllically located The Clock Café\, dinner for two (up to the value of £50) at Eat Me Café\, which is based inside Scarborough’s iconic and beautiful art deco Stephen Joseph Theatre\, which features in the book\, plus a £50 e-voucher for the grand Grade 2 listed Victorian entertainment venue\, the Scarborough Spa. \n

DESCRIPTION:To Celebrate Heritage Open Days\, the National Lottery Heritage funded South Cliff Gardens Project\, brings you a panel of horticultural experts from across the country who will answer questions focused on heritage gardens and heritage gardening. \n\nThrough the South Cliff Gardens project we asked the local community to submit questions focused on heritage gardens and natural heritage. We then asked a hand selected panel of experts including Gardeners\, Head Gardeners\, Garden Designers and Horticultural Experts from across the country to tackle questions put to them by our local gardening enthusiasts. The event will be hosted by our very own Vicky Thompson who has over 15 years of gardening experience working here in Yorkshire. \nWe will publish a video of the event on South Cliff Gardens YouTube channel on the 15th of September. So why not join us\, grab a brew and swat up on all things heritage gardening. From growing your own vineyard or selecting heritage vegetables\, to recommendations for the best books to read up on managing heritage gardens\, we have it all.

DESCRIPTION:A short film by artists David and Angela Chalmers that celebrates the nature and heritage of the South Cliff Gardens. Join us on a nostalgic tour and experience Beeforth’s private tunnel revealing the historical architecture and hidden garden beyond. \n\nTo Celebrate Heritage Open Days\, the National Lottery Heritage funded South Cliff Gardens Project are proud to present this short film by artists David and Angela Chalmers that celebrates the nature and heritage of the South Cliff Gardens. The film showcases the beautiful rose garden\, formerly known as\, ‘The Large Rosary’\, which was created by George Lord Beeforth during the Victorian era. He owned 13 acres of the land south of the cliff lift\, and built many properties along the Esplanade including Belvedere House with a private tunnel under the road providing access to his gardens. \nToday the South Cliff Gardens are freely accessible\, yet once upon a time the public would enter via closed gates and pay for admission. The film takes the viewer on a nostalgic tour offering the exclusive experience of Beeforth’s tunnel\, not usually open for public viewing and revealing the historical architecture and hidden garden beyond. It was visionaries such as Beeforth that provided the town with many enchanting coastal gardens and we would love for you to join us as we explore this part of ours.
