DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to welcome Raven one of Scarborough’s finest live acts to the Italian Gardens to close out our Summer  program of music and poetry. \nRaven have been together for 19 years and successfully toured to a large number of diverse venues throughout North Yorkshire. The name Raven describes the mysterious\, earthy and spirited – reflecting their unique style and blend of music. Guaranteed to get toes tapping and hands clapping! \n12:45 pm Poetry from fantastic local poets Jo Reed Turner and Ann Gibbon who are joined by special  guest performer Ellen Phethean a prominent figure in Newcastle’s creative writing scene. \n1:30 pm Music from Marigolds \nWe are delighted to welcome this local female trio consisting of Fay Gillanders\, Gillian Edwards\, and Rowena Sommerville to the gardens for the first time. They are well-known in the region for performing a variety of harmonious a cappella music ranging from “trad to weird” with a distinctive edge. \n2:15 pm Poetry from Ellen Phethean\, Ann Gibbon and Jo Reed Turner \n3 pm Music from Professor Cooper \nClosing out our program for the day is popular local covers performer Alan Cooper\, armed with a ukulele and harmonica he will have you singing along to a diverse set of fantastic pop and folk favourites. \nAll times are approximate and may be subject to change.

Pack a picnic and join us for an afternoon of free performances from some brilliant local artists. \nThis week we welcome: \nPhillip Bull: 12pm  \nLuke Barker: 1:30pm  \nWellbeing Choir: 3pm \nMusic will be interspersed with poetry read by local performers Rob Tyson and Kate Boddy at 1pm and 2:30pm \nRob Tyson has written from childhood. In his fifties\, whilst a father and a psychotherapist in the NHS\, he reclaimed writing as part of his public life. His inspiration is his environment and his relationships with the people he meets. Rob believes that poetry is an oral tradition and performing poetry engages directly with the audience. His collection\, ‘Moor Poems’ was published  in 2018. \nAlongside and after an outstanding teaching career in the Scarborough area\, Kate Boddy has become an acclaimed poet and story-teller\, a spell-binding performer of her own and other people’s work and a facilitator who is hugely in demand to run workshops for young people and adults. In 2017\, she published her first collection of poems for children\, ‘Lucky dip’. \nAll timings are approximate and subject to change. He will be Playing covers on Ukulele of The Beatles\, Bob Dylan\, etc. and also some blues harmonica. \nAnnie and King: 1:30pm  \nAnnie and King: 3pm \n \nAnnie & King are an acoustic duo from Scarborough who love playing live music! If you have seen them perform in the gardens before then you know they are not to be missed\, if it’s your first time then your in for a real treat. \nMusic will be interspersed with poetry read by local performers Suzie Millar and Felix Hodcroft at 1pm and 2:30pm and a special guest slot from Nottingham poet Dave Wood in the Italian Gardens large shelter at 3:45pm.  \nA fresh face in the world of poetry performance\, Suzie Millar discovered her passion for the art during pandemic zoom sessions. Typically\, her poetry packs a powerful emotional punch with her soft Northern Irish accent lending an extra flavour to her performances of her own and others’ poems. Now a confirmed coastal dweller\, the local seascapes exert a strong pull on her and they are a regular character in her poetry. \nFelix Hodcroft is a poet and performer\, editor\, teacher and events-organiser. He has published two collections\, ‘Life after Life after Death’ and ‘rehearsing for this’  and an anthology of local poetry\, ‘A Pocketful of Windows’. Felix writes a blog\, felixhodcroftpoet.com\, which argues passionately for the continuing importance of poetry old and new and especially that which is neglected or forgotten.    \nAll timings are approximate and subject to change.
