DESCRIPTION:Join poet Charlotte Oliver on a fun journey of discovery as we meet the new characters in the gardens\, Toad\, Rabbit and Cormorant. \nA new worksheet has been created to encourage children to get interactive with the sculptures but visitors of all ages are invited to come along to the free drop in session and find out more about the new additions which were created by local artists Steve Croft and Graham Sykes and each features an escribed line of poetry by Charlotte inspired by workshops with local people. \nCharlotte will be on hand to help explore each character and invites participants to create poems inspired by the sculptures and the environment around them. \nFind us in the sunken meadow behind the Clock Café any time between 11am – 3pm. \n

SUMMARY:Hidden Messages in Nature: A Love Parks Creative Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This workshop explores Scarborough’s beautiful South Cliff Gardens through a mix of observation and simple making\, as part of Love Parks Week. Participants begin with a short walk\, noticing colour\, shape\, and detail in the surrounding space\, before creating paper flowers inspired by what they have seen. The session also introduces the idea that flowers can carry meaning\, giving people a way to connect what they make with a feeling or idea. \nParticipants can take inspiration from traditional flowers such as mignonette\, stock\, lupin\, pink\, pansy\, and alyssum—plants that have long been part of Scarborough’s gardens—or create their own designs using colour and shape to express a feeling\, memory\, or message. The workshop also draws on European paper flower-making traditions\, including Polish decorative styles\, where paper is shaped\, layered\, and structured to create more detailed and expressive forms. Guaranteed to get toes tapping and hands clapping! \n12:45 pm Poetry from fantastic local poets Jo Reed Turner and Ann Gibbon who are joined by special  guest performer Ellen Phethean a prominent figure in Newcastle’s creative writing scene. \n1:30 pm Music from Marigolds \nWe are delighted to welcome this local female trio consisting of Fay Gillanders\, Gillian Edwards\, and Rowena Sommerville to the gardens for the first time. They are well-known in the region for performing a variety of harmonious a cappella music ranging from “trad to weird” with a distinctive edge. \n2:15 pm Poetry from Ellen Phethean\, Ann Gibbon and Jo Reed Turner \n3 pm Music from Professor Cooper \nClosing out our program for the day is popular local covers performer Alan Cooper\, armed with a ukulele and harmonica he will have you singing along to a diverse set of fantastic pop and folk favourites. \nAll times are approximate and may be subject to change.
