Intro to Writing Thrutopia with Kate Evans

Floods, wild fires, heat waves, drought, power outages, problems with the food chain; humankind is facing multiple climate change and biodiversity crises. It’s easy to write the dystopian version of the future. But what if we put our imaginations and creative writing skills to developing a more sustainable one?
In Thrutopia writing we explore how we get from where we are now to a future where we are learning to live more as part of nature and more in harmony with each other. It is not a utopia — there are still challenges and conflicts and failures — but we are seriously working on healing the planet, ourselves and the relationship between the two.
In this three hour explorative workshop, we will use various writing exercises to begin fashioning Thrutopian fiction.

About the tutor
Kate Evans has been writing for forty years, publishing non-fiction, fiction and poetry. 2021 to 2024, Constable/Little Brown published three of her crime novels set in her home town Scarborough, UK. She came to Thrutopia in despair for a more hopeful future and through the work of Manda Scott and others.
