Live Music and Poetry in the Shuttleworth Gardens

September 3, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
Free

As we step in to Autumn we are once again thrilled to be able to offer a fantastic program of music and poetry in the tranquil settings of our delightful Shuttleworth Gardens.

We are delighted to be welcoming back local folk group Raven to the Italian Gardens this September.

A six piece, multi instrumental band they have performed at an extensive range of venues and events including Grassington Fringe Festival, Coastival, Woodend, Filey Festival, SeaFest, Beverley Folk Festival, Spotlight Theatre Bridlington, Helmsley Arts Centre, Selby Abbey, Castle Howard and the Stephen Joseph Theatre.

Raven is renowned for their enchanting harmonies and haunting melodies with their own Rootsy Folk style – combining their original music and traditional songs.

They have created the original sound tracks for Scarborough based Animated Objects Theatre Company’s large scale community projects Leviathan, Orpheus The Mariner and are currently working on The Odyssey, a three year project for the Yorkshire Coast.

We also welcome the incredibly talented Genevieve Carver. Genevieve  is a writer, performer and arts educator based in Sheffield.

Her poetry has been widely published in journals and anthologies including Iota, Envoi and The North, and her first collection, A Beautiful Way to be Crazy, was published by Verve Poetry Press in 2020. She has received a number of literary accolades including in the National Poetry Competition, Troubadour International Poetry Prize and White Review Poetry Prize.

Getting things started is local musician and songwriter John Watton with a solo set that’s bound to get feet tapping and hands clapping.
