South Cliff Gardens Presents – Live Music and Poetry in the Italian Gardens

Live music and poetry returns to the Italian Gardens this summer.
We have another fantastic line up of super talented local performers and it’s all completely free so pack a picnic, bring a brolly (useful in sun or rain) and enjoy an afternoon of splendid entertainment.
12 pm Music from Annie and King
Kicking off our summer program are garden regulars Annie and King, it’s always a treat to welcome this brilliant duo who’s original songs are both humorous and heartfelt. Guaranteed to get toes tapping and hands clapping!
12:45 pm Poetry from fantastic local poets Jo Reed Turner and Ann Gibbon who are joined by special guest performer Ellen Phethean a prominent figure in Newcastle’s creative writing scene.
1:30 pm Music from Marigolds
We are delighted to welcome this local female trio consisting of Fay Gillanders, Gillian Edwards, and Rowena Sommerville to the gardens for the first time. They are well-known in the region for performing a variety of harmonious a cappella music ranging from “trad to weird” with a distinctive edge.
2:15 pm Poetry from Ellen Phethean, Ann Gibbon and Jo Reed Turner
3 pm Music from Professor Cooper
Closing out our program for the day is popular local covers performer Alan Cooper, armed with a ukulele and harmonica he will have you singing along to a diverse set of fantastic pop and folk favourites.
