Issue No 56: Clearing the ponds
As you will be aware, at this time of year, the pond weed is at its most prolific. It is a naturally occurring phenomenon and not something that can easily be dealt with. We are investigating what, if anything, can be done but, in the meantime, the NYC Parks and Gardens Team took to the water to clear the rubbish which sadly gets dumped in the pond, as well as tackling the weeds on the waterfall.
Next Work Parties
It’s that time of year when our attention turns to bulb planting so we are going to be focusing on that at the forthcoming work parties. On the 8th we will be preparing the ground for the bulbs and the 15th will be our Bulb Planting Day. As always, we also need litter pickers on both days.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the weather is kind to us!
Sunday 8 September, 10am to 12 noon
Sunday 15 September, 10am to 12 noon
Meet at the shelter at the top of the path at 9 Valley Road.
If you can’t attend in person then you can always get in touch via our Facebook page Friends of Valley Gardens, Scarborough, or drop us an email friendsofthevalleygardens@gmail.com
If you have ever thought about volunteering but weren’t sure what it involved then why not pop along and have a chat.
We are also aware that not everyone can make the Sunday morning work parties so we are keen to hear your views on what other days/times might work for you.
